Placed upside down, those beautiful glass cups remind us of the snow-capped Mt. Fuji. Mt. Fuji has been a sacred mountain since ancient times. It is widely known as a symbol of Japan.
The cups come in a kiribako. Kiribako, or paulownia wood boxes, were used to contain betrothal gifts in the Japanese imperial family as well as to protect various goods of values such as shamisen. Nowadays, it is still used, of course, to protect precious items. But it is also an art craft itself.
The cups come from the Toyo Sasaki glass company, one of Japan’s top glassware manufacturers with its founder having studied under European craftsmen back in the Meiji period (1868-1912).
Cup size: 67 x 67 x 46 mm, 35 ml
Kiribaki size: 156 x 82 x 61mm
