This wooden Kokeshi doll was hand-made and hand-painted in Gunma prefecture by traditional doll makers. While the cherry blossom may be the best-known flower in Japan, the plum blossom or ume, as it is called in Japanese, holds a special place in Japanese tradition. They are often associated with a sense of maturity.
